I love nintendo, and I love my wii, but be aware that you will get pounded playing this game! Twelve characters each getting lightning, blue shells, and the new POW block mean you might do more spinning out that racing. A great game, but if you wanna go fast, you may want to check out the N64 version for download.
Very well done May 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this 1 day ago and today I couldn't stop playing it. It is a great game for multiplayer and the nintendo wfc mode. You can keep playing this game with all the new bikes, carts, and characters. The graphics are one of the best, and out of all the mariokart games, this is the best. The wheel in my opinion, makes it really fun. So far, there are no negative concepts in this game. The race action was adrenaline pumping, and you couldn't get enough of it. Nintendo really has done an excellent job on this game. There are lots of other types of gameplay like ghost races, tournaments, grand prix mode, time trials etc. This game can be challenging and at the same time easy and fun. Even though I am not a big Mario fan, I like the games but this stood out the most. Whoever out there, who is looking for a good game, get this one.
Great Game Play May 3, 2008 I'm glad I purchased this game. My first impression of the game was that it was colorful and fun. Some of the characters and sounds effects where clearly geared towards children which may irritate some players. For me though, I quickly got used to the silly voices and ridiculous karts and started enjoying the game play. br /br /The drift turn feature is just as fun as in previous Mario Kart games. The motorcycles drift turn very differently than the karts and that gives you options since there are many different karts and motorcycles to choose from. Allowing speed boosts for doing tricks off of jumps was a good idea and that adds another element to the game. br /br /When playing a race, you run over colorful cubes with questions marks to acquire weapons. What weapon you get is random; it's like a slot machine. However, the designers of this game put in place a mechanism that allows last place players to have a higher probability of getting extremely powerful weapons so that they can catch back up to the players who are leading the pack. It's possible to be in 1st or 2nd place position for the first two laps and then end up in last because you get clobbered by a series of attacks by people in the back who acquired super powerful weapons. This can be frustrating. However, the flipside of the coin is that if you have a friend who hasn't played before, they do have a chance to place instead of remaining in the dead last position the entire race. As a result, people who play the game for the first time seem to enjoy it. br /br /Online play is awesome. The only complain is that it takes a few minutes to get logged in and setup before you start the race. Playing people online is much more enjoyable then playing the computer. br /br /Overall a great game. Lots of tracks and really fun game play. I expect the replay value of this game to be very high. br /
Having a BLAST May 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With almost a week of playing this game under my belt I would have to say I am not disappointed in this game. I have owned every version of Mario Kart and have loved them all. I like the new tracks (though there are a couple of them that I have a hard time staying on the tracks at the 150cc level) and I like the inclusion of some of the older tracks that I have come to know and love. The graphics are terrific, the sounds are good and the music isn't annoying like it has been in some of the past versions. I love being able to race using my own Mii. It is so much fun to see yourself put into a game. It really gives the game so much more of a personal feeling. Online play is great and there is very little waiting time to find a group of people to play with. People dropping out of a race is no longer a problem as they are usually replaced with new people looking to join in on a game or two. Racing Ghosts online is fun as it gives you on opportunity to see how people compare to you. The first online tournament is fun so far and it's neat how they have changed the track just a little bit (Chain Chomp is running loose instead of being tied to his pole). I see a lot of play coming out of this game as even after I get all the gold cups, there's still lots to do and always people to race online.
