Brilliant game for brilliant people December 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've enjoyed Nintendo DS games, but I think this is the first time I've been amazed by one. br /br /The story is quite simple: Professor Layton and his assistant have been called to a mysterious village to unravel a puzzle. A wealthy man has died, and he has offered his treasure to the one who can find the "golden apple." But everywhere Professor Layton and his assistant go in this curious village, people keep asking them to solve puzzles. Then a murder occurs--or does it?--and Professor Layton is accused. Answers seem to lie hidden in an amusement park that has not been open in ages and in a strange forbidding tower. Mystery follows mystery, but fortunately this strange town has you to solve the puzzles!br /br /The story is told in short animated pieces of high quality, the kind found in films like Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle. The logic puzzles themselves are quite challenging, and it's a joy to solve them. I didn't solve every single one (I think I missed two or three out of the 90 I did), but they are very good, and there are so many of them. I would NOT give this to someone who is easily frustrated, but I would recommend it to anyone who loves solving difficult logic puzzles. br /br /Sadly, after about 15 hours of having a hard time putting this down, I have finally solved the mystery of the golden apple and enjoyed the conclusion of the story. It ends with a promise that the story will continue, so I will be looking forward to the next Professor Layton game, whenever it comes out. br /br /And in the meanwhile I can still enjoy additional puzzles downloaded to my DS via a wi-fi connection. br /br /This is a great, great game!
hit for Christmas December 30, 2008 My son researched Nintendo games and found ratings to indicate this was one of the best puzzle games around. I started it on Christmas day and spent about 30 hours solving the 120 puzzles in the game. Only 3 of them stumped me or took longer than I wanted to invest in getting it solved. The hints were usually very useful for helping get unstuck. The rankings on the puzzles also helped alert me to the degree of difficulty potentially being encountered. As you go through the game, click on everything to find the hint coins and hidden puzzles. If you get some places and have not solved enough puzzles you will have to go back to the village to find and solve more. I thought the game was very entertaining and I am in my early 60's. It was challenging enough to keep me interested and not frustrating to make me quit. I love puzzle games and liked this game alot.
For the More Intelligent Crowd December 23, 2008 This is a fun game. I would definitly reccommend it for gamers over 13 years old. The puzzles can be tuff at times, but once you solve them it's great. I believe this game was made for an older crowd even though it may look childish from the cover.
Fun puzzles, too much talk December 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have to say when I bought this game I didn't know what to expect.br /br /I've gone through this game twice now, and I agree with another review about the dialog. There is an awful lot of it, while it is part of the story line there should be an option to skip the dialog and get straight to the puzzle if you wanted to. br /br /I've read review of this game describing it as an adventure game, but it's more of a brain game. The adventure is in the dialog that most puzzle people probably would want to just skip over. I can see this as an introduction to brain games for those who wouldn't normally like them.
Just loving it! December 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a fun game! The graphics are very good. The best so far I've seen on a DS screen. The storyline is much fun too. You have to solve puzzles, but if you can't solve it at once, you can actually skip the games, without being stucked in the game (I hate it when that happens). br /br /The puzzles are of different levels. Some are easy to solve, while others are much more difficult. If you can't solve it by yourself, it's fun to gather around with friends for some help.br /br /It's worth your money and I would reccomend it! Have fun playing!! P.S. I just received my game yesterday and I'm already hooked.
