A solid continuation of a great franchise January 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Pokemon franchise has long outlasted its fad status, and seems here to stay. Next to Mario, it's the best-selling video game franchise in history. There's a reason for that, and it's not the pikachu dolls people bought for their 10 year olds. The games that started it all are excellent role-playing games, and bring you into a fun and interesting setting with lots of choices.br /br /Pokemon Emerald follows the same plot as the rest of the Pokemon games. You start as a rookie trainer, and eventually work your way up to the Pokemon League champion. On the way, you manage to save the world from the incursions of a team (two teams, in this case) that seeks to use pokemon for their own advantage. The plot is simple but fun. The battle system is engaging, but the real appeal is the pokemon themselves. You can catch them, trade them, and battle them. Additionally, you can enter them in contests, feed and care for them, and breed them. You can only carry six at a time, so there's a lot of thought put into building a team, teaching them moves, and so on. You can have hours of fun just exploring the wilds and entering pokemon into contests, regardless of whether you want to actually battle them or carry through the game's plot.br /br /Pokemon Emerald has all the strengths of its predecessors, and adds some new features to boot. It also has the franchise's drawbacks. The plot is predictable to those who have played the game before, and risks becoming stale at times. The amount of battling can become repetitive later in the game, especially when you're in a cave and you have to deal with wandering pokemon every few steps. These flaws are easy enough to ignore if you're interested by the gameplay, though, and that gameplay stands up well in comparison to most CRPGs out there today. Overall, Pokemon Emerald isn't anything new for the franchise, but it does continue a tradition of good games that carry the Pokemon brand name.
watch out for used games January 5, 2008 Overall the game is fun and worth it if you enjoy the Pokemon franchise. However be careful about buying a used version. Mine, and I found out many other people had this problem, told me the saved file was erased due to damage or corruption after I beat the Elite Four and went through the credits. So if you don't want to take the risk of that happening because somebody sells you a bootleg version of the game, consider buying it new.
eh November 1, 2007 not as good as the fire and leaf green versions, you start off with few to catch and the pokenav is brutal to get people to start a battle. if fun to check out new places but I just wish they followed the formula of the other 2
Pokemon Emerald Version October 23, 2007 The Pokemon Emerald Version is a fun game. It is great to add Polemon to your Diamond or Pearl Pokemon. Everything went smooth in the transaction. I would buy from this person again.

Ok, so its another pokemon game. You would think it would be the same as the rest. Well, it isn't. The game play and the whole idea is the same but there are these wierd little animations your characters perform when they pop out of their pokeball. At first it was bearable but it just gets on your nerves after a while. If you turn off the animations though then there is no movement what so ever even when you attack and it gets kinda boring. If you love pokemon then go for it. But the rest should just play one of the other games.
