4 out of 5 stars Storyline...loved it! Music...enjoyed it! Graphics...sweet! Battle system...not so much   November 26, 2006

Ok, so this takes off right after the epilogue of Kingdom Hearts...with great graphics almost fit for the PS2. Sora follows a hooded man to a foreboding castle and enters it. The hooded man says, "Ahead lies something you need...but to claim it, you must lose something dear." Sora, Donald, and Goofy find that they have forgotten their abilities as soon as they entered the castle. Every floor they up they lose memories of their adventures...but Sora remembers someone dear to him, someone he'd forgotten about.br /br /The story is awesome and has an interesting array of new characters. Sora, Donald, and Goofy are brash, hot-headed, and funny as usual. Riku (the other part of the game) goes through a significant character change, something that I liked about his story. Mickey is as great as ever.br /br /The new characters were something to think about. You loved them, hated them, loved to hate them, or couldn't decide. (Those were my choices.) Fiery Axel, sadist Larxene, observatory Vexen, fearless Lexaeus, craven Zexion, hazardous Marluxia, and the enigmatic DiZ. All working for their own goals and butting heads with each other. And, of course, the "all-knowing" Ansem is back with his usual rant of "darkness is the heart's true essence."br /br /The music was almost perfectly transferred from the first KH to the GBA, added with a few new scores that just made the game great to play. I even paused the game a few times during the Organization Members' battles and just listened to the music, especially the first Marluxia battle.br /br /Now for the bad things...br /br /The battle system was, I admit, unique and clever. But if you're gonna have a hack-and-slash with a battle menu in the first one, you might as well have it in its sequel. Also, it was tedious to find certain map cards in order for you to move on.br /br /The way of leveling up was also stupid. First-off, you had to collect the experience points dropped by enemies in order to level up while avoiding the other enemies that could make sure you missed those valuable points. And then, you had to choose what you wanted to level up, and the choices are: health, capacity for the deck of cards, and the card combos. How lame.br /br /Despite these flaws, the game is still great and KH fans will at least enjoy it to a certain extent. I did.

I couldn't put it down!!! Rarely do I see a game through to the end but I did this one. It has such high replay value. I finished it and picked up the first Kingdome Hearts game for PS2. The graphics are good and the gameplay is downright fantastic. I loved being able to fight and use cards in the battle as well. It sounds confusing but it really is not hard to pick up. I high recommend this game!!! I am still looking for another game that is just as good.

5 out of 5 stars Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.........   October 5, 2006

While I've had the pleasure of playing abit of the original Kingdom Hearts game, it wasn't until I played Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories that I actually took any interest in the series. Don't get me wrong, I'm a strong supporter of both Square-Enix and Disney. It was just, at first sight, Kingdom Hearts didn't quite gel with me. So, recently, I go into my local videogame store around payday looking for me a portable RPG to play. Sadly, the Nintendo DS nor the PSP didn't have any games that I hadn't already played so I took a look at the Gameboy Advance section. While there were other games I wanted to play, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories won out in the end. I don't know whether it was outstanding boxart, the fact that the store clerk told me it was an excellent game, or the fact that Donald and Goofy appealed to my inner child...the more I looked at the game, the more I wanted it.br /br /Upon booting up the game, I could tell from the opening intro FMV cutscene that production values were definitely high on this game. I was simply amazed that, despite its' technical limitations, the system was able to do it at all....but it was. The game itself, although changed into more of a card-battle type action-RPG, was a deeply challenging one that felt like I was playing the console game. From what I've heard, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is more of a recap of the first game but with a different story. You see, in this story, Sora journeys through Castle Oblivion looking for his friends. As he does, he battles through another version of his memories. Upon completing the game, you can play through again as Riku with a different storyline as well. So, you get two games in one...basically. While I've yet to touch the second game, one thing is for sure- Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is one of the best GBA experiences I've had since Golden Sun. If you've read any of my reviews; you'd know, by now, that Golden Sun is one of my all-time favorites. So, to make the comment I made, you know it'd have to be something special. br /br /While this game will definitely appeal to Kingdom Hearts fans looking for another Final Fantasy cameo filled fix, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories will also appeal to Casual gamers as well. br /br /Be forewarned, though, this game isn't no Yu-Gi-Oh! or Duel Masters and it's a very challenging game..indeed. So, come in looking for a challenge.br /br /Hopefully, Tetsuya-san and the fine folks at Square-Enix will continue the Kingdom Hearts story with more portable games(yet, without the card-battle angle). I hope so, anyways. br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /br /

Unfourtunately I have not gotten my hands on this game yet but I do love Kingdom hearts and since it's kingdom hearts it cant be that bad. Even though I havent played it I have done a lot of reserch on it and it is a good game other than the whole card thing. It is pretty important if you are going to be playing kingdom hearts 2 because this game comes between kh1 and 2 which are both great games. If you dont play it it wont be imposible to understand kh2 but it will help. If you like seeing good graphix and stuff this is a must have gba game. In fact it won the award for best gba graphics. so its a good game.
