Nice attempt but needs some work December 25, 2008 This game was not what I expected. I was anticipating something on the same level as the Nancy Drew games. It makes a nice attempt but doesn't quite make it. Navigation is cumbersome and confusing at times. Load times are too lengthy and the game itself is quite short. Surprisingly, the storyline, in my opinion, is a bit too sordid for the younger players. I hope the next attempt for the Hardy Boys will be more polished. Overall, wait for this one to hit the bargain bins.
Please don't make another one...I'm begging you... December 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Hardy Boys: The Hidden Theftbr /My Rating: 1 out of 5 starsbr /br /Experience: Eight years of playing mystery computer gamesbr /Most Challenging Mystery Game Played: Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of the Mummybr /Favorite Mystery Game: Nancy Drew: Secret of the Scarlet Handbr /br /The clever cover design of this computer game boasts the stars voices of Jesse McCartney and Cody Linley as the famous brother detectives, The Hary Boys. I only wish the game could have fulfilled what I was hoping for. An avid player of mystery computer games, The Hidden Theft interested me when I saw it on Target's shelf. But rather than shelling out $25.00 for a game I might hate, I had my sister pick it up at the local library for me to try out. I loaded it, and the interest suddenly zoomed from "very" to "none" in an amazingly short period of time.br /br /Loading Menu: Very plain menu, it's your old standby that is mainly gray with white, no stills from the game itself, and no music. Very straightforward in instruction, but very poor in actual mental interest of the player.br /br /The Start: The menu loaded without difficulty, although I heard the music a good minute before I saw the menu. The game also started with a comic book sequence, something most mature players could do without. Also is the objectionable content of Joe Hardy hacking into someone's computer while unknown thugs of a villain with a name but no background history try to break down the door. I don't think he was hired to do that, and if he was, then he needs to switch jobs.br /br /The Graphics: Um...how can I say this without sounding superior. Never mind, all I'll say is that I could make better graphics given enough time. The CGI characters were choppy, the ATAC "cop" walked forward when turning (do we do that in real life?), the voices didn't match the mouth movements, and Frank and Joe Hardy have always had just a father. Never, ever a mother. Please do us a favor, The Adventure Company, read the books before making anything with the Hardy Boys in it. That way we won't laugh at your absurdity.br /br /Actual Game Play: Once the opening sequence passed, you zoom in on the big-screen TV in the boy's room. I wish there was a reason for that, but Frank merely says something like "not now." when you touch it. No tips or help, and when you finally figure out how to move into the rest of the room, you can't touch the beds, the computer, or the bird. That is very poor tactile experience for the game player, and you also cannot leave the room until you do something. This "something" I could not figure out, nor could I unwrap the package that the ATAC "cop" dropped off to see what it was. And most frustrating of all, Frank hints that you need to do that elusive "something", yet offers no tips on how to go about doing that. I have had that in games before and it frustrates the snot out of me. Are we supposed to deduce like Sherlock Holmes and magically come up with the answer?br /br /And I beg of you, parents, do not buy this for your kids this Christmas (or any other time, for that matter), skip right ahead to something better like Sherlock Holmes or another mystery game. It's better to just leave this one on the shelf.
Better luck next time! December 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a long-time Hardy Boys fan, I looked forward to getting this game, figuring it would be similar to the Nancy Drew games from Her Interactive.br /Therefore I was very disappointed by this non-intuitive, cumbersome, ill-conceived game.br /Do the Hardy Boys ever make it out of the house past Laura Hardy?br /I'll never know because I simply didn't care enough to struggle through this boring game.br /Hopefully, the creators of this game will learn from their mistakes and come up with a better game next time.
Hate this game! December 6, 2008 I like most purchased this game based on the merits of the HerInteractive Nancy Drew games. Once I revienced the game and loaded it I was astonished how bad it was. I was not able to play the game at first and had to wait a few days for the company to create a patch which I then had to dowload. The game still played haltingly/jerky. My friend and I actually stopped playing after about ten minutes because we couldn't stand how hard it was to control the characters. The start to the story was lame and the environment was so bland. The Nancy Drew games are textured - wallpaper, cabinets, pictures, tools, etc anything you come across in the game looks like it belongs. In the Hardy Boys' bedroom it was just large yellow walls. br /br /I was so upset that I wasted my money on this - please do not waste yours. br /br /To anyone who bought this and like I was stuck with a rotten game, sell it on ebay. I made $15.50.br /br /Again do not buy this game.
Disappointed November 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a waste of my money. I am a huge fan of the Nancy Drew games, but his wasn't even close to those. I had the same problems as lots of others and had to go their web site to download something to even get the game to work. Once I got it working, it took me a while to figure out how to maneuver between the brothers. I barely got started with the game and lost interest. I haven't even finished it, and I have no desire to. Don't waste your money on this game. What a disappointment.
