The most epic game probably for 10 years to come. December 11, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This game has beauty written all over it. This will probably be the most epic game for years to come. It is going to be a long time until something takes the title of "Most Epic" from Metal Gear Solid. No game has yet matched this game in sheer quality. Gameplay..Story..Graphics....Beautiful.... Play it and you will see what I mean.
A perfect balance of amazing and awful December 10, 2008 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
If this is the last Metal Gear game it is a true shame because I don't feel this game does the series justice and shortchanges the fans being a game that is 50% gameplay and 50% cheesy (in the dullest way imaginable) cutscenes that could have been cut down to a few minutes to make way for a few more hours of play time. And lets talk about these cutscenes and the story in general (spoiled). Here is my MAIN NUMBER ONE GRIPE about this game, THE STORY which Kojima thought was so mind blowing it had to take up one entire half of the game is told in boring soap opera styled talkie scenes. The dialog is already dumb as a brick and the sci-fi concepts that are discussed in these long cutscenes could easily be explained in a few words but NOOOOO instead they are stretched out for over 40 minutes, explained slooooowly with cornball dramatics and that SOAP OPERA cinematic style which means two people talking face to face, one says something dramatic and faces the camera so both are now facing the camera. MGS 1-3 had their fair share of never ending dialog bits but the gameplay time always overshadowed it. Here as you well may know the cut scenes come in and take over the entire game midway through and you play mini-levels connecting cutscene to cutscene. And when the cutscenes are trying to mimic Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg as opposed to Sergio Leone and (old) John Woo well its like the game is deliberately trying to anger me. br /br /Spielberg? Yeah! Here's why and my final complaint about the story and overall stupid choice of thinking it should take up half a game. The entire story throughout the game is nothing but grim foreshadowing and buildup to a tragic/heroic ending. Every other cutscene has someone telling Snake his body is aging, then he is turning into a virus spewing death machine, then he is taking a lethal overdose of radiation, THEN he is frying his entire circuitry OD-ing on nanomachine injections, the opening credits play over Snake preparing to commit suicide. Snake goes through hell to save the day and in the end must take his own life. That is a righteous story, very Japanese, I love it. However it doesn't happen, I do not believe for one second Snake is too much of a wuss to kill himself and having suddenly everything lifted and ok with a vomit inducing happy/pleasant ending is a slap in the face to MEN who are fans of ACTION everywhere. What a copout, a wussy back off at the last second ending. Kojima should hand in his gonads right now. I am sure if you're a total wimp you probably like the ending, I bet you smiled when you saw everyone turned out happy, wuss. I mean, hours upon hours are spent on this meaningless empty buildup that just deflates like a balloon at the end. Its not clever or different, its just badly done. br /br /Act One has Snake in the middle east looking for liquid, you crawl through some rubble, one battlefield and meet up with Meryl and her crew and fight your way throught a horde of FROG chick cyborg things. This is the best moment in the game and the action never gets this intense or enganging again. It is a real shame the best the game has to offer is the first Act. The action slims down from there and I swear you don't do anything in Act 3 or 4. A real waste, there needs to be another one, done by someone who enjoys action games, not Michael Bay movies.
Best MGS game ever December 9, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The real reason to own a PS3 is this game right here. Konami has done it again with MGS4 being the GOTY contender in my book plus the greatest game of all time. I had doubts about MGS4 mainly because Snake has age alot since MGS2 and time has passed by since the events of MGS2. Old characters return from MGS1,MGS2, and MGS3 bringing the events of what happened in the previous games together in this awesome game. You also get new characters who are introduced in MGS4 that feel as they should of been in the previous games included. The graphics push the PS3 to the max almost and the voice acting is amazing plus the controls have gotten a makeover from the previous games. The online mode is better than MGS3 and old maps and new ones return. You should really check out MGS4 if you are new to the series or a fan of the series because you won't be disappointed.

Greatest game ever. Period. November 30, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
A major breakthrough in every sence. I've never seen a more though out and deep story in a videogame. The graphics are stellar, especially in a full HD screen. If you want to show off your 1080p TV, no other game looks as good as this. The gameplay is the funnest in the series, and adapts to your choice of play, either more tactical espionage or action. The online is really fun too, and has already taken hours and hours of my life =).br /br /No other game has moved me as much as this one. Buy it. Play it. And enjoy what is really the best gaming experience out there.
