5 out of 5 stars Great for Grown-ups Too   July 14, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

Just to add another perspective to the many reviews, I'm over fifty, and I've never played a racing game before -- or any of the classic Nintendo video games, for that matter. I bought this one only because of the high ratings and rave reviews. And I'm glad I did!br /br /I've never been much into real-time games, frankly, but I've always liked having one around as a change of pace. Back when home computers were a novelty, I found the occasional Red Baron (a WWI flight sim) game refreshing after many hours of playing chess or turn-based games like Civilization.br /br /That's just why I bought Mario Kart -- as a periodic change of pace from turn-based DS games like Advance Wars, Chessmaster, and Age of Empires. And it fills the bill perfectly. Maybe a little too perfectly, since Mario Kart is often my first choice nowadays.br /br /I was worried that my aging reflexes might not be up to a game like this, but it turns out I can handle it. There are three speeds to choose from, and the slowest is challenging but quite manageable. I'll never master the game, but I can keep my cart on the track most of the time, and I've enjoyed my share of victories.br /br /The race itself is spiced up with various items you can use to either enhance your own performance or interfere with your opponents' progress. And I find this a nice balance. You don't always have the speed or agility to win a straightforward race, but you can sometimes use the items to triumph anyway. Yeah, it's "dirty pool," but it's all in fun. And I think I'd probably lose interest in a straightforward racing game.br /br /The variety of drivers, carts, and tracks (some of which have to be unlocked via skillful play) make for long-term enjoyment. This game does not soon get to where you feel it's the same thing over and over again. Some of the tracks are very challenging indeed, especially at higher speeds.br /br /Anyhow, Mario Kart is lots of fun for young and old alike. One of the best purchases I've made for the DS. No regrets.br /

5 out of 5 stars Two boys' review: Fun for one player, even better for multiple players   July 14, 2008
The ability for two or more kids to play from one game makes this a great addition to your Nintendo DS collection. You can use the single-card feature, which allows one player to start the game and the other player to join in and play.br /br /My two sons, ages 6 and 4, love this game. They race against each other and sometimes team up and challenge the field. The game is fun and addictive.br /br /Occasionally, they will ask, "Papa, do you want to race with me?" I'll agree and then be quickly schooled by my 4-year old.br /br /Pros:br /br /The controls are easy to learn and easy to operate for little hands.br /br /The game is fun and has many different tracks and characters to keep your young child entertained.br /br /The single-card multiplayer feature offers added value to your purchase!br /br /In summary, this is a great buy if you're looking for a family-friendly Nintendo DS game that young kids, older kids and adults can enjoy together.

5 out of 5 stars friend has fun   July 3, 2008
I am origianally the owner of this game, my friend wanted to play, and this is one of those games where you hook up, wait, you're in. We had lots of fun ballon battling(though on the same team)and v.s. a tiny bit. She and I had lots of fun.(balloon battling was cool, once you die, you turn into a ghost, if in multi-player mode, and throw real, not fake, REAL blocks.) Her favorite level is Tart Top, mine is Nintendo DS, it's cool. You blow up your balloons by the mic, but have to be standing still. In v.s. or Grand Prix, you choose your cart,(or kart)player, and course,(although if second player, have to be sorbet guy). All in all very fun!!

5 out of 5 stars Matt's Mario Kart DS Review   June 9, 2008
This game is really fun. The special cup race is my favorite. Mario Kart is really fun to throw stuff at other people to make them slow down. My fastest person on this game is Luigi. I would recommend every person that likes Mario get this great game.

5 out of 5 stars Great game for a great price   June 5, 2008
Well, I got a Nintendo DS 3 days ago, and I bought Mario Kart along with it. This game is the BEST way to waste time that you would normally do something productive with. Yes, that's a good thing. It's a very fun game, and for those reviewers who say "It's too easy!" either br /A) Go get a life, cause you play this game too much, orbr /B) Try it on something OTHER than 50cc.br /Overall, a great game, one of the best non-shooter games I've ever played.

Nintendo Wii Games. The best place to purchase Nintendo games and accessories.
