What is up with the sound quality? July 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
So I am curious what has happened with the sound here? On some songs I cannot even hear the singing and cannot hear the guitar, I have to change the volume settings, but it still doesn't even really help at all. I am so dissapointed in this purchase, I absolutely love Aerosmith, but am so not happy with this purchase. I have finished GH3 on easy and it took me a bit and I totally zipped through the easy level on Aerosmith GH on the first try, it was crazy!! I hope that whatever they come out with next, that it is way better then this. I am surprised that Aerosmith allowed this to be released.
It's OK, but just stick with GHIII July 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First off, I'm a HUGE guitar hero fan. I've played GH3 many times over, and I've never gotten tired of re-playing most of the songs on that game. With the release of GH-Aerosmith, I was extremely excited to have ~40 new songs to play (although I'm only a moderate Aerosmith fan). After playing through the game, I am extremely disappointed GH-Aerosmith and cannot recommend it to non-Aerosmith fanatics.br /br /Prosbr /- Great graphics, definite upgrade over GH3br /- Good storyline, the live interviews were interesting, and it was cool to re-play some of Aerosmith's critical gigsbr /- The recognizable Aerosmith songs are quite fun to play (especially "Walk This Way", "Love in an Elevator", "Living on the Edge", and several others)br /br /Cons (lots of them)br /- Only 41 songs (in comparison to GH3's ~75 songs) - how can they justify the nearly equivalent prices of the two games?br /- The obscure Aerosmith songs and the non-Aerosmith songs have almost zero re-playability. In my opinion, the guitar parts on these songs were repetitive and boring.br /- Omission of key Aerosmith songs such as "Dude (Looks like a Lady)" in favor of some lesser, more obscure Aerosmith songsbr /- As indicated by other reviewers, the game is pretty easy, but worse, the guitar parts just aren't very interesting or fun to play.br /- Star power is a disaster. In star power mode, the virtual audience claps (very loudly) to some random beat that does NOT correspond to the rhythm of the song. Never in the history of music has an audience (real or otherwise) had less rhythm! It is incredibly distracting to have contrasting beats on the same song... GH3 did NOT have this same problem.br /- The volume of the guitar track was inconsistent between songs. I had to adjust the guitar volume (Options menu) for each individual song to have optimal guitar audio. Again, GH3 did not have this problem.br /- The timing of the notes in Expert mode seemed to be quite off (especially on "Cat Scratch Fever" and other songs). I had to introduce an audio lag (Options menu) to try and make the video notes and audio correlate. This was not a function of my TV, and GH3 did NOT have similar problems on my system.br /br /In my opinion, the game-play of GH-Aerosmith is "sloppy" compared to GH3. Perhaps these problems are the result of rushing this product to market in advance of the upcoming GH-World Tour... Anyways, if you're a die-hard Aerosmith fan and you aren't too concerned about game-play, then you'll enjoy this game. Otherwise, get GH3 (if you're a newbie) or wait for GH-World Tour...br /
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith July 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Let's get one thing straight first--this is Guitar Hero. As long as there is rock music and a G-R-Y-B-O color fretboard, it will always be Guitar Hero. That basically means that the "fun" factor of the game will always be at high, because it is very, very difficult to ruin a game that is placed around some fairly simple gameplay.br /br /But, of course, this is Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, something new for the series, as it is mainly focusing on one of Rocks's biggest hits. In that sense--it's a total success. If you're an Aerosmith fan, or just like that style of music, this game will work very well. It's got all of the songs that I personally love, and even some that I didn't know about, and still liked. And let me get one thing straight; rocking out at the "Halftime Show" to the song "Dream On," is freaking awesome. br /br /Now, let's talk about the other parts of the game--the non-Aerosmith is pretty decent. High points include Joan Jett, Cheap Trick, Joe Perry's seperate band, Black Crowes, and a surprising inclusion, an old-school rap song by Run/DMC. The non-Aerosmith playlist is somewhat small, which is a bit disheartening, but what's there is enjoyable, and good enough to break up the Steven Tyler input. Activision could have decided to include more songs in the bonus tracks, but it's just aerosmith/Joe Perry band tracks. br /br /The Gibson Les Paul guitar you can get with the game, contrary to many reports I read, works excellently. The only thing about this game I can really cringe about is the graphics. Guitar Hero III managed to compensate for the Wii's graphical lacking-ness by dumbing down the graphics to Guitar Hero II level--but this time the developers wanted to push it towards the level that the Xbox 360 and PS3 are capable of, and stumble quite a bit. Steven Tyler's face does NOT look good at all, the rest of the band barely keeping in the level of "decent." Tyler's dancing animations are pretty cool, but overall the graphics on this game just aren't adding up. Considering that "Transformers" managed some impressive graphics, I'm not sure how this happened, but hey, I'm not a game developer.br /br /In short--it's Guitar Hero, and it's fun. Buy it if you want to have another 60 or so songs to accompany GH3, but I can't blame you if you just decide to wait for World tour or pick up Rock Band.
Oh my gosh July 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am sitting here laughing at all the responses, "I bought the Aerosmith version and I wish there weren't so many Aerosmith songs on it."br /br /LOL What did you think?br /And if you don't like the playlist, don't buy it.br /br /I for one found that it was a little easier than GHIII in that I may actually have a chance on some hard songs. I love to see Cheap Trick and Joan Jett in the mix as well.br /br /Happy Rockin'!!!
Aerosmith flavored Guitar Hero that doesn't offer too much July 10, 2008 Since Activision and Neversoft took control of the Guitar Hero franchise, we've been getting a steady stream of sequels and spin-off's, with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith being the latest game in the series. Featuring a pretty good collection of songs spanning Aerosmith's long career, you'll find that besides adding the Aerosmith-themed presentation, the game itself is basically identical to Guitar Hero III. This isn't really a bad thing, but considering this is a full-priced game, it would have been nice if there would have been a little more overall variations. The track list here is quite good though, with even some bonus tracks from Joe Perry's Joe Perry Project to find and play too, along with some bonus interviews with the band. Getting through the game isn't that much of a challenge though if you're a Guitar Hero veteran, as the game proves to be not all that difficult compared to previous Guitar Hero games. It should also go without saying that if you aren't a fan of Aerosmith, this probably isn't for you. All in all, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is an enjoyable diversion that fans of the band will get a lot of enjoyment out of for a while, but in the end, the game doesn't offer enough bang for your buck.
