The format can aptly be described as Super Mario Kart meets Mortal Kombat, which makes for an odd, yet addictive game. The object is to throw, punch, smash, or blast your opponents off the edge of the beautifully rendered, themed arenas. Numerous power-ups, weapons, and surprises help or hinder the melee. Your eventual goal is to fight your way through to a bizarre final boss character. Victory in this battle rewards you with another character to play, such as the scene-stealing Pokemon, Jigglypuff.

Your eventual goal is to fight your way through to a bizarre final boss character. Victory in this battle rewards you with another character to play, such as the scene-stealing Pokemon, Jigglypuff. From Star Fox's laser pistol to Link's hook shot, each character's trademark special abilities are utilized to knock one another off the screen. The game does a great job balancing the characters' widely differing powers so that no one character has an insurmountable advantage. The sound and animations are also dead-on: Donkey Kong is a huge, cartoonish ape, while Link is much more detailed and realistic. And Pikachu's famous thunder shock attack is accompanied by a fearsome yell of "PIKA!" Unlike most fighting games, Super Smash Bros. allows you to team up with a computer partner and take on other teams in both single and multiplayer modes. But the most fun is had when four human players play in a battle royale. The game quickly becomes a scene of incredibly fun chaos: picture Mario beating up on Luigi, while Donkey Kong is chased by a scampering, sledgehammer-wielding Pikachu. First off, let me just say this game revolutionized Nintendo. Just search Super Smash Bros., and numerous titles come up. But anyways, back to the game. This game is so much fun, I can remember skipping Halloween as a 3rd grader to play with my friends on a 13 inch TV. We couldn't have had more fun. The variety of characters and stages bring hours of fun, and also trying to figure which character is the most effective and fun to use brings much competition. Four player mode easily is the heart and soul of the game, having to watch the entire stage to win. To sum this game up, i would give it a 9.3/10, an incredibly fun game, and a great buy.
Major Memories October 18, 2008
Playing this game brought back major memories for my husband, and he was extremely happy to have it. This was a great anniversary present for him!
The game is also interesting because anyone who plays Brawl knows how far they've come in designing this game. If you want to stroll down Super Smash Brothers memory lane, this and MELEE are must haves!

When I started playing It was incredible,OK,you win everything and classic gets boring but playing vs with my friends,the fun doesn't stop, was great starter of the other ones!

This was one of my first video games i played.Its addeticing, great graphics for a nintendo 64 game,all the charaters have diffrent moves and abilites.Theres all kind of wepons and POKO BALLS!I have the ps2, and ps3, and i still play this game.And do u no why,BECAUSE THIS GAME IS SO FUN!
