Product Description
Mario Party is the first of several Mario games planned for this year that are being created by developers outside of Nintendo. In this case, the developer is Hudson, a company best known for the Bomberman series, while the others are HAL Systems, the creator of the Kirby line (which is handling the Mario fighting game, Smash Brothers), and Hot Shots Golf maker Camelot (which is doing Mario Golf). Each of the games' focus plays to what the developers know best, in this case, Hudson's knowledge of good multiplayer game modes gleaned from producing countless incarnations of Bomberman, the seminal party-game series

5 out of 5 stars simple, but so much fun   July 1, 2007
I'm more of a simple video game type of person. And i love this game. I remember playing it years ago and still like to take a stab at it every now and then. Love it.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   June 5, 2007
I still remember the first time I played this game, it remains a favorite even today. Some minigames are a bit simple, but I still love it!

Ony complaint: PADDLE BATTLE! Who's stupid idea was this? Rotating the controlstick gives me blisters! Ouch!

3 out of 5 stars Worst of the Series   November 23, 2006
I love Mario and all of his stuff, but I honestly think that the first Mario Party is the worst of the Mario Party series. These graphics are medoicre for a N64. Super Mario 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time had better graphics. Compared to later Mario Party releases, like Mario Party 4 or 5, this just looks dumb. Those games had better music and better levels, and were much more fun than this one.
Despite these complaints, this is still a fairly fun game. I'd just play MP4 or 5 over this any day.

1 out of 5 stars Traditionally, a player plays a game. In Mario Party, the game plays you   May 30, 2006

I bought Mario Party used for nearly twenty bucks, and it was a total waste (I've since exchanged it for two games I love). The favorable reviews here were what suckered me into buying Mario Party, by the way. Whether you're playing solo or with a group, there is NO skill required in this game. The game rolls the die for you each turn, and the steps you move on the board are obviously based on those rolls. Traditionally, a player plays a game. In Mario Party, the game plays you, and therefore, you have little to no control over how the game unfolds. A game without skill is a game best left unplayed. At least, that's my belief. This game spawned at least six sequels; I'm sure it's because people wrongfully assume that everything Mario-related is heaven-sent. Avoid this game. I'm not too keen on N64 games in general, but there were a few nice ones. Laugh if you want, but Pokemon Puzzle League was one of those few. It has some beautiful FMV scenes in between each round beaten, hand-drawn anime backgrounds during the in-game puzzle portion, and tons of side games. I'm not a big fan of the show, but I do recognize when a game has a lot of time and effort put into it. Mario Party isn't one of those kinds of games.

I'm glad I returned Mario Party for Rayman 2 and Pokemon Puzzle League.
