1 out of 5 stars A Very Good Game....in a Collection   February 5, 2006
This game, Pac-Man, is good, but it just doesn't feel right when you buy your copy for $20. It deserves to be in some sort of collction, and not a stand alone, as it was as early as the arcade era, and shoouldn't cost more than 5 dollars at this day and age. The fact is, Pac-Man for the NES wasn't a classic game.br /br /To play, you are a yellow ball, and you have to gobble up all the dots in the maze while avoiding the ghosts, who start out in the box (Ghost Home) in the middle of the maze. In 4 corners there are power pellets. Eat them to make the ghosts run away from you and turn blue. You can eat them to get some good points, and then the reamining eyes of the ghost(s) go back to the ghost shelter to be regenerated. Occasionally there will be some fruit under the ghost pen. You can munch them for some bonus points. As the levels go on, the fruit is worth more. Speaking of which, all the levels are the same. So as soon as you eat the last dots, the maze refills. br /br /One thing that changed that I liked was that the lines are now solid light blue so you can see them easier. On this game you can only see a scrolling view, but that's fine,l because it shows a little more than 1/2 the maze at a time. The score board is now at the sides of the maze, also. Now one thing I don't like is that all the ghosts and Pac-man are much bigger than the actual maze lines of the game, making it look very sloppily done.br /br /This game is just missing the feeling of quality and care. Clearly Nintendo took this game straight from the NES and portedit onto the GBA. Don't buy this game, and don't feed them they're easily earned money by supporting they're cruddy ports. Only get the good ones. So what's the final verdict? Get Pac-Man Collection, it's really cheap, includes this game + 3 others, and they're all in their original, arcade form.

5 out of 5 stars It's called Classic NES Series!   June 17, 2005

This game plays as if you are putting the Pac-Man NES cartridge in the NES. It's supposed to be that way. Of course no "extra features". It's the same as the NES version. I'm getting ticked off now. I DO recommend this. It's a good spend.

1 out of 5 stars Spend 20 dollars on a 1980 game? I don't think so.   June 8, 2005
DO NOT GET THIS GAME! It is majorly wasting some good money. Don't get me wrong. I like Pac Man a lot. Guess what? They are selling it for 20 dollars (15 now). Guess how much it should cost? 1 dollar. Pac Man is a very good game, but get it only if you are a die hard fan. There are no special features or anything. Just regular old Pac Man. Everyone knows how to play right? Good. But get Pac Man Collection, that is probably 10 dollars, and it has that game plus more. In all, a fun game, but at a nasty price. Never have I seen such a trick company. A whopping price for a repeptive game.

1 out of 5 stars $20 list for an inferior Pac-Man   May 9, 2005

As a Pac-Man fan, I can tell you the original is a genuine classic. However, I get pissed off when I see Nintendo testing the public's common sense.br /br /Namco's PAC-MAN COLLECTION consists of the original Pac-Man from the Arcade, plus three other games.br /br /Nintendo's CLASSIC NES SERIES: PAC-MAN is a graphically smashed NES version of Pac-Man with the flaws of the NES. Only ONE game in this cartridge.br /br /Both are around the same price (I've seen the Pac-Man Collection for a cheaper price at some stores.) Nintendo must think we're stupid to pay money for this crap. Say no to this travesty.

Is it just me or is Pac-Man a metaphor for taking too many ecstasy pills? Think about it, you've got some happy little face stumbling around in the dark munching as many pills as he can get but when things go bad he's chased by ghosts all over the place until he can get more pills. Either this is really subliminal subtext by designer Toru Iwatani or it's just an amazing coincidence and I'm reading far too much into it.br /br /Either way Pac-Man is like THE biggest ever arcade game, which is quite amazing since many more advanced and technologically superior games came out after this. And it has one funky little theme tune!
