Amazon.com IPokémon Sapphire/I's updated graphics with weather effects, amazing sound, more than 200 Pokémon with over 100 new species--as well as its faithful adherence to the existing series of Pokémon games--makes for a welcome evolution in the series.p First, the game has a lot in common with Pokémon games ISilver/I, IGold/I, and ICrystal/I. For example, players can choose to be a boy or a girl trainer, an internal clock sets events at certain times, and the game's handy-dandy Pokédex helps players keep track of the many stats. You're main goal is still to beat all the Gym Trainers and become the Pokémon Master. If you've played the old games, you will be right at home. But not all is the same. p The most obvious change is in the battles themselves. Now that two Pokémon can fight on your side at the same time, you can tag-team them against an enemy by taking advantage of the strengths of your Pokémons while covering their weaknesses. For example, you can now have a water Pokémon watch your fire Pokémon's back. You can also attack more than one Pokémon at a time. p A whole new element to the game focuses on how berries are used in battle. And if you collect enough berries, you can take them to a Berry Blender and make a PokéBlock, which is a little super-charged candy that raises your Pokémon's "Condition" attributes. You can then groom your Pokémon for regional contests and compete for ribbons like "Best of Show," which will unlock additional contests. There's even strategy in how to best use your berries: pick too many and the berry tree will disappear; plant berries, though, and a tree will grow. You can also build a Secret Base in special areas of the game, which you can decorate just like you can your room.p And let us not forget that Pokémon Sapphire has a kickin' multiplayer system, too. You can trade Pokémon, and link up to four players for incredible battles. The only downside is that you can't link up with the old Game Boy Color games. product review June 12, 2010 K. Gray (Fort hood, tx) My child enjoyed this game and says it's really fun- one of the best Pokey games.
Beware used copies - save data deletes by itself May 8, 2010 An Amazon customer (USA) Can't say much about the game, but bought it used from a seller and it's apparently a common problem with Sapphire (as well as Leaf Green, according to an internet search) that save data deletes itself, so you can't get anywhere in the game. Some sources say there's a battery within the game cartridge that expires after a couple of years; another source says the data in the cartridge can easily be corrupted. Who knows? That's a risk you take with electronic items.
Warning: NOT compatible with SoulSilver/HeartGold and those will erase your Sapphire/Ruby save April 20, 2010 Katrina O'clock (MD, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm completely editing this review and upping the rating on it because I have figured out the "save file deleted" glitch... or at least, one very big reason for it. If you load up SoulSilver or HeartGold while Sapphire or Ruby is in the GBA slot on a DS Lite (and I would assume any DS system), it WILL erase your Sapphire/Ruby saved game. I confirmed this through multiple tests on my end with Sapphire and SoulSilver, and my friend a few states away has now double-confirmed it with Ruby and HeartGold.

br /We had hoped to get the Sapphire/Ruby SS/HG set to trade via Nintendo's network, and get as many pokemon as possible into our respective copies of SS/HG. So much for that idea. It looks like it will take two DS's in the same room to trade from the Sapphire/Ruby generation to the SS/HG generation, if that even works... that's not something I know, being as I don't have two systems yet. I have heard it works with Pearl/Diamond/Platinum and SS/HG.

br /So, keep that in mind. The game itself is what Pokemon has always been, catch critters, obsess for way too many hours, you know the drill. xD I'm now playing Sapphire only when no DS cartridge is in the unit at all.
great way to add more pokemon characters January 4, 2010 Ashley Walker (Tacoma,WA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Seller was prompt in sending this game. Great addition to the DS games to add more pokemon characters. My 7 yr old son loves this game. One note; when playing this in your DS, take out any other DS games. Sometimes the game would freeze or not save, which frustrated my son. Playing this game on its own eliminated that problem.
Awesome! September 17, 2009 Garry Montgomery (AR) I'm discovering how much fun Pokemon games are! This game came in a very short time and I am very pleased with this seller. I would purchase again.
