Product Description Metal Gear 3: Subsistence is a PS2 exclusive that redefines the classic stealth gaming experience. It's got all-new game modes, including a new online game mode. Choose "Team Battle" or "Snake vs. Enemies" and carry out missions cooperatively or competitively. The new 3rd-person camera controls gives a controllable, low-angle view of the action for a more intense stealth-action experience. Demo Theater Mode - Watch All In-Game Movies from MGS3 similar to a theatrical movie Refined camera system -- players get to control the viewing angle New facepaint options, for custom camouflage

METAL GEAR IS SOLID FUN December 17, 2008 Once you get how the controls works, this game is fun by the truckload. You can practice whatever technique you want to defeat your enemies, CQC, weapons, etc.br /br /Moreover, the different places where the action takes place makes this game absolute addictive.br /br /Get it and live the cold war in its deepest sense!
MGS3: Not so much a game, but an experience. November 30, 2008 Time and time again, the third iteration in a series greatly surpasses the previous two. The MGS series is no exception. MGS1 redefined stealth action gaming, MGS2 expanded on the first game but was an utter disappointment due to the new character Raiden (although Raiden is not a terrible protagonist, he is nowhere near as interesting and pales in comparison to Solid Snake), and MGS3 certainly defines the whole series as well as games in general.br /br /Truth be told, MGS3 is not the best stealth game. This is simply because it is not as accessible as Splinter Cell, Hitman, or Manhunt. It has many gameplay elements, which I applaud, but none of these come together in a very cohesive way. However, there is one thing that makes this game worth playing: STORY.br /br /Mr. Kojima is a brilliant storyteller who can piece together all these diverging parts of the story and blend them together to form one massive story. This is done through numerous cutscenes (in fact, all the cutscenes in the game add up to over 3 hours) that are made for character development, which is something that not many games have even attempted. br /br /Hideo once said that he prefers to focus on what "cannot be seen" over what "can be seen". The unseen elements would be story, atmosphere, and emotion. What can be seen, "cosmetics" for lack of a better word, are graphics and gameplay. Therefore, what he gives the gamers in return is a thought-provoking and Kleenex-consuming story, and this story helps this game transcend into being something that is more than just a mere game, but rather, an experience.br /br /Although earlier in this review I said that this game isn't the best stealth game, that doesn't mean it isn't a superb game in general. Most games that focus more on stealth than action (Hitman, Splinter Cell, Manhunt, Thief 3, etc.) gets very clunky when it comes to running and gunning, and games that focus more on pure action (Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, Max Payne, etc.) renders sneaking around enemies impossible. MGS3, however, fits nicely between "stealth game" and "action game". My playing style for MGS3 is half-stealth and half-action (eliminating enemies quietly + all-out gun battles, just for variety), and this game supports both ways.br /br /Now this may not be like any of the other video game reviews you have ever read, for I have never mentioned this game's graphics, sound, lasting appeal, etc. This is simply because this game is not so much a game, but more like a movie. A good movie. In fact, arguably the best movie ever made (sorry, but the Corleones must now abdicate their throne for Naked Snake). br /br /MGS3 is more like an interactive film rather than a video game. Its unique and heartfelt story is enough to make even the toughest, meanest hombre cry (I bawled like a baby at the scene with Snake and The Boss in a flower patch), Its cinematography is second to none, and could also teach movie makers a thing or two about fight choreography.br /br /I'm afraid I will have to strip Far Cry 2 the award of being "the best game I've ever played" (which caused quite a stir when I posted my review of that game here on Amazon). br /br /Hideo Kojima, you've done it again!br /br /br /br /
time paradox snake is always awsome August 5, 2008 the 3rd installment to the series is off the hook the camo is great and on the 2nd disc u can play the very first metal gears get it if u have a ps2 u wont regret it
If you own a PS2, this is a must have! January 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't like very long reviews so I am going to make this as short and as helpful as I can. (just for the record I am a long time gamer, tester and even a game maker of sorts)br /br /Lets get to the facts:br /br /- The Metal Gear franchise (Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake eater) as of now have sold more than 11 million copies world wide and that is for the PS2 alone.br /br /- Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence is an improved version of Snake Eater, with more content, game play elements, camera options and extras.br /br /Now lets get into the game:br /br /Some of the bigger Pros:br /br /-Graphics and sound that make the PS2 feel and look like a next gen console.br /br /-An impressive and compelling story with a surprising plot that in my words can only be described as 3 seasons of 24 and lost put together. (yes, it's got its fair share of sci fi elements).br /br /-I would call it open ended/free roaming, since the story is quite linear but you get to go wherever you want and whenever you want, you can approach every mission the way you want.br /br /-The prequel of one of the most, if not the most anticipated game for the PS3, and I am talking about Metal Gear 4: guns of the patriots.br /br /-Good controls for the ever limited console controllers and a better free view camera, it takes time to get used to it but once you get it nothing will stop the fun.br /br /-Great variety of bosses which require different strategies and weapons to be defeated.br /br /-Great amount of weapons, outfits and cammo options for added stealth.br /br /-Very useful radio options to contact your fellow comrades for info, help, directions or guidance if you don't know what to do next.br /br /Now with the cons, well not really cons but observations:br /br /-The game can be very very difficult at higher difficulties; if you don't set the game in the right difficulty for you it can be very frustrating.br /br /-The game might feel like an interactive movie for some people because of the large and frequent amount of cinematic cut scenes, I am ok with that but some people are not.br /br /-I personally could do without the sci fi elements such as the bosses with supernatural powers, especially since the game does so well melting the story with "real world" events.br /br /Being a very active gamer and having played most of the games on the different consoles and the pc, I can only recommend this game as it sits on top of my "must have" list with only a few other truly memorable games.br /br /PS: this is my first review, but this game totally deserves it.br /
Good game, but not much different to snake-eater January 2, 2008 As I think mentioned in other reviews, this game is virtually identical to snake eater except there is a different camera option and a few other minor differences. There is also an on-line play (but I didn't test it), snake vs monkey (fun), the old MGS games and a few other items.br /br /Unless you are very crazy about the MGS line, I suggest you get EITHER this or MGS3: Snake Eater. If you have a choice, this one is more robust.
