Each installment of the Final Fantasy series has featured strong storytelling, characterization, and strategic combat, fun minigames, and hours upon hours of captivating gameplay. The 10th title in the series is no exception. This is the first time a Final Fantasy game has appeared on the PlayStation2, and it takes full advantage of the increased technical capabilities. p The story this time concerns Tidus, a blond-haired star of a sport called Blitzball. While he is playing in a match, Tidus's city is attacked by an evil force called Sin, and everything is destroyed save Tidus and his guardian Auran. The adventure begins as the pair are somehow transported to another world. From here on, it's standard Final Fantasy gameplay: fight battles, manage experience points, learn new powers, and recruit a motley crew of nonplayer characters to join your quest. p The graphics, however, take things to a new level. They are amazing not only for their realism, but also for their imaginative art design. The world these heroes inhabit is breathtakingly beautiful, flowing, and full of inventive surprises. You haven't lived until you've surfed cables high in the air, or ridden a graceful airship through the clouds. The stunning effects are on display when you use magic in combat, summon gigantic monsters, and use fire columns to devastate your foes. p One new element is voice acting. The innovation yields predictably mixed results: it's wonderful to hear spoken dialogue rather than read subtitles, but as with most games translated from Japanese, the acting is mediocre and sometimes unintentionally hilarious. p Still, the game's new graphics engine and solid gameplay are sure to please fans of the series waiting to see what Square has in store for them.  A triumph of form and function December 29, 2008
Let me first start off by saying I am a long time fan of the Final Fantasy series (a few exceptions aside). Final Fantasy X is in my opinion a beautifully mastered piece of art with an in depth story and great playable characters (even if they have the worlds most annoying voices)br /You Play as Blitzball player Tiddus and follow his adventure through time and through a story that shows you what faith is, what love is and most important what it takes to be a true hero. Final Fantasy X is the first game in the series to use voice actors and although the lips don't always match up its still nice to hear some dialogue spoken. The battle system is ATB system much like the older games but with a bit more on the active side. The overdrive moves are awesome and the summons can be used as playable characters, which you can even, upgrade their stats. Puzzle solving is a big thing in this game much more than I have seen in other games but it is a challenge and fun all at the same time. This game Although not m favorite Final Fantasy game is up there with the most enjoyable to play one of the most beautiful and one of the most insightful.br /A must play for any fan of Final Fantasy or RPG'sbr /
 A Look Back: Wonderful Story. Dated Gameplay. December 27, 2008
Final Fantasy X is a classic, and its story propels the player through it with a sense of urgency. There are umpteen thousand reviews that could tell you that, I'm sure. However, it's not a game I've ever had an urge to re-play or found joy in the battling... perhaps because I don't find as much joy in the traditional turn-based, no-frills battle systems of the past now that I've been introduced to the action hybrids of today. br /br /After all, Final Fantasy X was one of the last traditional no-surprises, no-frills turn-based RPGs. It's fairly simple, the pacing of battles are a bit slow, and the Sphere Grid - while an interesting concept - seems a bit tedious and overcomplicated, as compared to both past and future systems (though it opened the door for unique and new leveling systems and should be appreciated for that!). Really, I don't find much joy in the level-griding and battling through, and I've never been able to play it again, much as I loved the story.br /br /That said, experiencing the story is a must-do for anyone who hasn't yet. The themes of religion, truth, life, death, and love are powerful, and the characters are sound and interesting. The quest, though linear, is well worth undertaking, the scenes are breathtaking, and the voice acting is mostly worthwhile. It's a classic, but the battle system shows its age.br /br /I'm not much for side quests and mini games, and I personally hated blitzball and all the mini games in this FF...but that's true of many RPGs I've played (I can count the mini games I've liked on one hand, probably), so it's probably more a matter of personal taste.
 A solid FF title, but not the best. December 6, 2008
As someone who has played most of the FF series (except for III and V, and I hope to pick those up soon), I was excited to pick this game up and add it to my Final Fantasy collection. I had heard mixed reviews, some claiming that it was "the best EVAR" and others claiming that it was seriously flawed, but I wanted to play it for myself before making any judgments. Currently, I have played the game about 50 hours and am just before the final boss, have completed most of the sidequests, and am working on celestial weapons (because I am a masoch-...er...perfectionist). Unlike the authors of most of the reviews I've read, I found that the game seemed lukewarm at first but got better as it progressed. Below, I have rated the game on different categories and explained the reasons behind my ratings.br /br /Story (6/10) - Ok, so it's not exactly what you'd call an original story. The main character gets pulled into another world by an entity called Sin. In this world, Sin is a monster that appears every ten years and must be defeated in order to bring about a period of calm. The only people who can bring about the calm are summoners and their Aeons (think summons, GFs, Eidolons, etc.). So, of course, our arrogant main character finds himself accompanying a summoner on her journey. Most of the plot twists are entirely predictable if you are paying attention, although there is one later in the game that I did not see coming at all, and I applaud the game designers for that. Now, for my huge problem with this game...the scenes, and the DIALOGUE. Some of the dialogue, especially in the first half of the game, was so horrible that I couldn't stop laughing even at scenes which were supposed to be serious. Of course, part of that might have been because of the voice actors...br /br /Characters (7/10) - Even though the characters of FFX make up quite a colorful and fun cast, this was another one of my issues with the game. Many of the characters, such as Auron and Lulu, are wonderfully developed and remain favorites throughout the game. Unfortunately, there is also Tidus. Now, some people may have liked Tidus with his "upbeat" personality, but I am not one of them. I found him extremely whiny, arrogant, and immature, even at the end of the game when he was supposed to have changed. Yuna, on the other hand, was a great character who was ruined by a poor voice actress and bad script writing.br /br /Graphics (10/10) - The graphics are amazing, even for a game that has been out for several years. Everything about the characters from facial expressions to clothing just screams attention to detail. And just look at the level of detail on some of the bosses!br /br /Sound (8/10) - This is the last Final Fantasy game that Uematsu wrote music for, and it's wonderful as usual. There aren't as many memorable tracks as there were in VIII or IX, but X still has a great soundtrack to enjoy, especially "To Zanarkand" and variations thereof. Now, my problem with the sound in this game resides with the voice acting. Some of the voice actors were great selections, but others put the emphasis on the wrong words and this at times ruined cutscenes. The finest example of this is Yuna. I felt that it was the right voice, but the wrong actor, if you know what I mean.br /br /Gameplay (9/10) - Aside from my sidequest griefs (listed in the next criterion), what a game as far as gameplay goes! This is my favorite turn-based battle system so far. Turn frequency is based on character speed (just like the ATB system), but it's not real-time. To the right of the screen, you can see the next ten or so turns so you can plan your moves accordingly. You can also switch out one character for another any time you please. This also helps you spread battle experience around a little more easily. That's right, no more characters stuck at level 15 because you didn't put them in your party. However, it annoyed me a bit that you couldn't walk 2 steps without fighting a random battle in some areas.br /br /Miscellaneous/Extras (5/10) - I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed with the sidequests in this game. There are few to do outside of the celestial weapon sidequests, and on top of this, many of these sidequests are frustrating at best. FFX's chocobo racing has to be the worst minigame ever invented. The butterfly catching game is hair-rippingly irritating as well, but at least it's possible. Other than the weapons, there are spheres to find which enhance the story and a couple more aeons to collect, but I found that this game fell very short in the enjoyable sidequest department. On another note, I have mixed feelings on the sphere grid. It's creative, but it complicates leveling up a lot. In order to keep this score from being abysmally low, I'll add in something I liked - Weapon/armor customization.br /br /Overall - 7.5/10. Solid FF title, but it was missing something. An important something.

Oh come on! Every game on Amazon is so highly over rated I feel like a meandering child being told how great Toss-The-Ball is at the local carnival. Final Fantasy X is worthy of some praise however, it's entertaining, and that's all any game really has to be. Visually it is beautiful as well, and the gameplay is not great, but it's not a pain either. However, this game gets a hard kick in the teeth from the horrible J-Pop and Teeny Drama of a storyline it has. The Visually beautiful movies and cutscenes can never recieve their worth because they're always being hampered by the absolutely horrid character interaction. Blegh. If you're an 8 year old girl who likes N'Sync or some deranged lunatic with a craving for J-Pop you'll probably enjoy it. For everyone else, bite your tongue and do what I'm going to do now, pawn this trash off at your local trade-in game store.

Not the best of the Final Fantasy series, but definitely a fun play. The voice acting is irritating at first, but it gets better. The sphere grid system can be a bit slow, but is the most fun addition to the game. Also enjoyable is being able to swap your party members mid-battle, this leads to more strategic battles.
