4 out of 5 stars Fun, but definitely a learning curve   January 1, 2009
I got this for my almost 8 year old boy who is a rodeo fan. You can play this game as the buckaroo or as the bull and even play against each other. They have a tutorial before the game starts and I highly recommend taking it so that you understand how to get the most out of the game. For example, you push the joystick up or down to get a better grip push a button to spur, push another to slow down the action, etc. When I am playing a fast paced game it's hard to remember which button does what. It's definitely easier to be the rider than to be the bull. When I am the bull, I can't buck that darn rider off and they end up with a ridiculous 3 minute ride. It's fun, but takes a while to figure out.

4 out of 5 stars It is fun if you are a PBR fan   December 25, 2008
I got the game and it is fun but I am having trouble with the dismount. The book says to push the 1 button when you go to get off and then again right before you hit the ground. The tutorial in the game says you swing the remote up for rider to come off then swing down right before you hit the ground. Well with me neither way works I always end up on my butt. If I could figure out how to get off the bull corectly it would be more fun I think. I also have a little trouble with keeping rider balanced enough so I can spur to get extra points but I just got it so I am still working on that. Over all it is a good game just needs to get the kinks worked out of it and hopefully it is kinks on my end and not the games.

2 out of 5 stars Good for fans, but gets old...   November 19, 2008

I was excited to see this game because my two year old son is crazy about cowboys and bull riding. I never thought about him playing it, but I thought he might like watching me play it. I bought it on a whim, ans since have not seen any relevant reviews of it. While fun for a while, it lacks lasting appeal.br /br /The premise is simple: as a cowboy you need to ride the bull, and as the bull you need to buck off the cowboy. Controls are a combination of wii remote motion, using the joystick on the nunchuk, and pressing a few buttons. To ride a bull, you counteract the bull's motions using the nunchuk. This could easily have been done on a d-pad, or even better it could have been using motions. To really get the full effect of the game, you really need to have it on the hard level using the advanced controls. As for playing as the bull, your bucking is done mainly through moving the wii remote and pushing a few buttons. There is a tutorial mode that will walk you through the controls, but there were a couple of moves that I had a very hard time performingbr /br /In easy mode you are just about guaranteed to ride without even pushing a button. Basically, as long as I didn't hit the "spur" button, I stayed on the bull. Being the bull was tougher to me, and I was not really able to get the hang of the controls. br /br /The Season mode consists of 10 events plus the Finals. There is also a mode were you ride for as long as you can. You can also do a quick ride. There is a two player mode where on person plays the cowboy and the other plays the bull, but I don't see that as a major selling point.br /br /Also, you don't really "create" your own cowboy or bull, you just tag one of the existing ones as yours for the sake of saving games.br /br /One very odd feature is the rewards. You have to unlock Adriano Moraes and Ty Murray, plus a couple of bulls. There are also some videos of a rodeo clown that you unlock, but they are pointless and nto really funny. You can also unlock some music tracks, which is also pointless.br /br /Graphics in game leave a lot to be desired. I mean, there not a lot going on here so you would thing more attention would have been placed on the graphic details. Stadiums look very simalar, except for a few decorations. The bulls' movements are not very fluid. There is a long, useless video preceding the finals. The camera angles are odd at times, especially after the ride.br /br /Bottom line, if you are a fan of the PBR you finally have a console game of your favorite sport. You will see riders and bulls that you recognize. If you are not a big fan of the PBR or bull riding in general, do no even waste your money. There is very little to keep you playing for long. The simple novelty of the game wears out after a while.
